Tuesday June 19 2012 - Off into the Wide Blue Yonder

or rather cruising Hawaii and French Polynesia

Although I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the wildlife, culture and countryside of Namibia, Botswana and Zambia last year, the mode of transport left a lot to be desired and probably coloured some of my journal entries.

So, this year I am returning to a more relaxed style of holiday – several nights in San Diego before boarding a 30 night cruise on Holland America’s (HAL) Westerdam, visiting Hawaii and French Polynesia. This cruise appealed to me more than a similar one departing from Sydney because of the ship and the longer stays in various ports.

Already I have joined a very active Cruise Critic roll call for this cruise and have signed up for both private and HAL excursions on various islands ranging from snorkelling, jeep and mini bus tours.

Now, apart from more planning, paying and finally packing, I'll also have to change the colours on this blog again to reflect a seafaring holiday!

Roll on October!

  1. A long cruise is a great cruise; and looks like a great itinerary with plenty of relaxing sea days and exotic ports of call. Will be following along.

    1. Debbie, like our Antarctic cruise, we've got a very active roll call so I'm going to make the most of my time in each port. I'm taking along an underwater camera too to use on all my snorkelling adventures around French Polynesia so hopefully I'll get some good photos.
